MOUNTAIN MEN, BUFFALO SOLDIERS, AND CAVALRY:
Re-living the Role of African-Americans in the American West
Living History brings to a modern-day audience all of the sensory
delights associated with historical
events placed within their proper atmosphere and
context. To that end, the re-enactors of such
events utilize the skills, appearance, and material culture of a people and time to bring
history alive.
Henry Crawford, Curator of History at the Museum of Texas Tech University, has played
an active
role in living history for some twenty years.
From fur traders to buffalo hunters and cavalry soldiers
to characters from the
Texas Republic, Mexican and Civil War eras, Crawford has assumed the
persona of them all.
A scholar of western history, Crawford has
published numerous articles and has given lectures on a
variety of frontier topics. A
consultant for publications and historical projects nationwide, he has
appeared in several
video documentaries aired on PBS, the Discovery Channel, and the
