Cultural Heritage

The Special Collections Library is joining with other local entities to help preserve, exhibit, and make the public aware of West Texas’ rich musical heritage. Efforts are underway to collect interviews and manuscripts related to Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Waylon Jennings, Joe Ely and a multitude of other West Texas musicians who have made unique contributions. On September 4 and 5, 1999, the Special Collections Library hosted a conference to promote scholarly research on the subject. This conference was held in conjunction with the local opening of the Buddy Holly Center Museum.
